She does an excellent job engaging her students in class discussions and is obviously very passionate about her teaching. She gives her students tools that allow them to later analyze a piece themselves. She definitely knows what she is doing and it shows in her teaching. Movies are thought of by society as tools for escapism and time-wasters. However, visual media is a product of intellect that must be analyzed in order to fully understand the true message behind the movies, films, and ads. Just as we would analyze the narrative elements of famous works, we can analyze the plot, characters, and motifs in a movie. Other elements, such sound and light, play a crucial role in establishing the mood and tone of a scene. The director of a movie can be equated to an author of a book or a paper. They both produce works that have a piece of the creator inside of them. This class taught me that in the right light, a proper analysis of a movie can easily reveal the character of the director and the message he/she was trying to convey.
